INLAND EMPIRE LEAGUE OF ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE VOTERS
ENDORSES SEVEN LOCAL CANDIDATES
“The Inland Empire can have a future where we’ve embraced clean energy and have clean air, clean water, land protection, and good jobs. We need elected leaders who are going to take us toward that future.”
RIVERSIDE, CA – This week, the Inland Empire League of Environmental Justice Voters released their endorsements of seven local candidates for office. Founded in February 2020, the League is working to elect environmental justice champions to local offices across the Inland Empire to protect public lands and access to clean air and water for all residents.
“These endorsed candidates, all people of color, are committed to stopping the business-as-usual attitude that has long plagued the leadership of our region,” said Chris Clarke, President of the Inland Empire League of Environmental Justice Voters. “They’re committed to making decisions that tackle the climate crisis. These candidates will put people before the big warehouse developers and other interests that seek to extract and take advantage of our region’s resources.”
He added, “The Inland Empire can have a future where we’ve embraced clean energy and have clean air, clean water, land protection, and good jobs. We need elected leaders who are going to take us toward that future.”
These endorsements come at a moment when Southern California has recently experienced wildfires and extreme heat waves as a result of climate change, as well as the ongoing pandemic. The Inland Empire has borne the brunt of horrific air quality from fires across Southern California. The effects of these problems have been especially dire given that Riverside and San Bernardino communities are already dealing with economic challenges, a housing affordability crisis, and public health issues like air and water pollution.
More and more candidates locally are realizing that community and environmental health are key issues for voters. From city councils, to local water districts and school districts, these candidates are ready to make a positive difference in their community.

ABOUT CALIFORNIA ENVIRONMENTAL VOTERS
California Environmental Voters (formerly the California League of Conservation Voters) believes the climate crisis is here and this moment requires transformative change. California has the policy solutions to stop climate change but lacks the political will to do it at the rate and scale that’s necessary. EnviroVoters exists to build the political power to solve the climate crisis, advance justice, and create a roadmap for global action. We organize voters, elect and train candidates, and hold lawmakers accountable for bold policy change. We won’t stop until we have resilient, healthy, thriving communities, and a democracy and economy that is just and sustainable for all.
